The Arc accepts referrals from county probate court to provide guardianship for adults diagnosed with IDD who are incapacitated and lack family or friends the court considers appropriate to be a guardian.
Guardianship protects vulnerable persons from abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Guardianship services provide for a person’s care and management of the person’s assets while preserving, to the largest extent possible, the individual’s independence and right to make decisions affecting his or her life. The Arc is appointed by the court in the ward’s county of residence and given the authority to make decision on behalf of the person.
